I’m sure I’ve missed too much. I was a speaker and had to spend some time sharing my own knowledge, but I attended a few inspiring talks and learned a lot from a fashion-tech panel that I attended. So, starting from the beginning:
Serendipity
I’ve learned that sometimes you’re in a good place at a good time. It was serendipity that I met Renata Kaczoruk from TVN, she was actually looking for me to have a talk, but she didn’t have my number. Any chances I would meet her if it wasn’t for Wolves Summit? Don’t think so!
I also really enjoyed a talk by Marta Kowalska of Elle.pl
Marta gave a good talk on why technology is important in the fashion industry and especially fashion magazines. She talked about mobile, SEO, Instagram (and buying via social media), Hector&Karger RE_ALITY and talked about everything fashiontech in a nutshell. It was good to hear such a nice summary of the topic.
I’ve learned a lot from other panelists
Again, it was about leaving my comfort zone. My panel partners – Marta Kowalska and Małgorzata Walczak had this amazing, different point of view of the future of wearables and fashion marketing/ecommerce. It was amazing to talk with them and learn that the whole fashion industry is super-divided when it comes to technology use. But we all agreed on one point, Big Data is going to be super-important in the future of fashion.
Women in tech are human in tech, just like they’re human in fashion
We often use stereotypes to describe sociological groups – it’s easier for us, but it’s bad for this group. We associate tech with men and fashion with women and then fight for “women rights in tech” etc. We shouldn’t differentiate between women and men when it comes to their character or capabilities. Every time we do that we pull women from tech and men from fashion. And it’s a bad idea, especially when we want to combine one with the other.
You are your brand
There was this amazing keynote that I didn’t plan to attend. Piotr Bucki, branding guru, told us that we (founders) are our companies brands and so we should be real in our brand. I’ve never thought about it, even though I’m 100% sure that many people associate this blog with me and that my personality is visible on GeekGoesChic and GGC Fash&Tech Meetups. That’s why people read, attend and co-operate. I’ve never thought about what kind of brand I am for this blog, but maybe it’s good – it means I’m real in it. And one thing is sure, I have a pretty good story of the beginnings of GGC.
So what’s next? I’m super excited about my next conference this week – WebSummit, which I’m going to attend as media. Hope to learn a lot, meet great people, leave my comfort zone and have a great time!
