Fashion Month: best in tech (and it’s not only Social Media)

There were a few internet of things/wearable projects shown during the fashion weeks. One of the most interesting projects was introduced during NYFW. Chromat and Intel created the Aeros Sports Bra and the Adrenaline Dress. These garments respond to the body’s behavior: the first one to body temperature and perspiration, the second to adrenalin. This is possible thanks to the “Intel Curie Module” which is a “low-power” device that aims to extend a human’s sensory system. Thanks to this piece of hardware, 3d-printed items from Chromat transform themselves (as the Adrenaline Dress does) or ventilate the wearer (as the Aeros Bra does). Rebecca Minkoff also showed her own wearables – wallets and shoulder bags for S/S 16. She also introduced Apple Watch leather bands and now is the first fashion designer to sell Apple Watch. It’s available now, in her e-commerce you can already find Apple Watches and bands to go with them, and also tech-enabled accessories that she has designed, like iPhone chargers and notification bracelets. Uri Minkoff, CEO and co-founder at the Rebecca Minkoff brand, told TechCrunch that “with the new iPhone 6S coming out, women are wanting to buy their tech accessories now instead of waiting six months”. House of Holland, in collaboration with Visa Europe Collab, created “connected jewelry” which was using NFC technology. If a show attendee (who was sitting in the front row) was interested in anything from S/S 16 collection, he or she could buy it instantly by sending out a signal through the jewelry. Simple, yet pretty damn smart. An interesting project was introduced during the Anrealage show. Kunihiko Morinaga, a designer behind the brand, invited show participants to use the flash on their cameras while photographing the collection. Clothes were constructed with the use of a photosensitive fabric. Thanks to this, under the attendees flashlights, the colors of the clothes were transformed.

Diana Broussard, an accessories designer from New York, showed us the “dbChronicle bag” which can play videos (created by Diana Broussard and her team, or any other video chosen). This shoulder bag, presented during Paris Fashion Week, is being made with Plexiglas and is equipped with an LCD video screen and USB charger.
