The story of how CCO of Burberry – Christopher Bailey – took over the new media

At the Vogue Festival I had the pleasure to listen to Q&A with Christopher Bailey, who talked about his work at Burberry, and what values, guide him and his team at work. Thanks to that, I met this London-based brand with a completely fresh perspective. Before that, I had known Christopher Bailey as an incredibly creative designer, but at the April conference he became known as a “visioner of creating a brand in the digital world”.

Burberry Timeline: from rulers of the rain till Social Media demons.

The brand can be found in any given network, where great campaigns are implemented, such as last year’s Burberry Body campaign and application with which every willing fan could test perfume brand before they were launched. Personally, I got a free sample to my home at the village located near Cracow (Poland).

Burberry has profiles on Facebook, Twitter (where it also has local accounts!), YouTube, Pinterest and in any other, significant place on the network. Burberry’s Facebook profile is a real ‘axis of time’ of this legendary brand. What’s more, Burberry’s life in social media is not only marketing and ePR, but it is also internal communication.  It holds on its own social media platform, exclusive and accessible for all Burberry employees.

iPad, mobile and what else?

Burberry webs are fitted to every conceivable medium. You can (without any obstacles) view them on the iPad, smartphone or regular PC. Burberry does not allow itself any slip, it moves with the times, adapts to any technology. It follows trends to stay up-to-date.

Graphics is not only a sketch!

Burberry works with real masters of 2D and 3D. It is able to integrate the latest trends in graphics and animation with all aspects of its activities: from the website, the videos up to the fashion shows. My favorite example is a fashion show in Beijing, during which Burberry used the hologram technology.

Something to look at, something for the body, something for the soul … something for the ears!

Music is a very important aspect of Burberry’s branding. Burberry is promoting young artists in its program ‘accoustic’.The Keane –a  band famous for the song called “Somewhere Only We Know” (which I personally love listening to) is exactly made in their stable and this is how Burberry takes over your iPod or YouTube account.
